Mark McAnelly, founder, begain working construction building homes since the age of 14. Five years later, his first contracting business was started then in 1994 he established Southwest Landscape.
Mark has developed his business over three decades and is well known throughout the landscape and lighting industries. Mark understands by having a smaller company and working in the field supervising with his crews he can offer his clients a better value in the quality and service that we provide and that our clients expect. Mark is hands-on for every project to ensure outstanding craftsmanship and dedication.
Mark has been a member of CA Landscape Contractors Association for over 25 years and has served their board for a total of 6 years throughout that time. Mark is also active in keeping up to date with the always changing regulations, products, and methods of installation. Mark is often called on by local media for stories or assistance relating to landscape construction, and has been published in many local, state, and national magazines. Click here to view.

Ongoing Charitable & Humanitarian efforts
are a big part of Mark’s life and legacy.
In July 2019, Mark received the award from his Rotary Club as ‘most valuable member’. Mark can count in his achievements being President of the National City Rotary Club (2006-2007), and has been a 100% attendance member since 2001 when he joined.

We at SWL are so very proud of Mark’s dedication to volunteering for the Thousand Smiles Foundation each quarter for the past 30 years! In fact Mark was the 2007-2009 President of Thousand Smiles Foundation. For thirty years, Mark has contributed to this non-profit organization, providing construction expertise, facility maintenance, among many other responsibilities. At this point, he’s transitioned to a Logistics role. Mark’s awards are shown below.
Other service projects take place in San Quintin, Mexico (medical clinic twice a year), Tijuana (building houses twice a year). Among other contributions Mark was a past IRT volunteer and supporter, where he worked on projects in Tecate and San Quintin, Mexico as well as big financial supporter of the annual fundraising Gala.
Some of SWL profits & labor is donated to non-profits, helping communities in San Diego, Mexico & others parts of the world.
Mark is also a past Ramona Chamber Ambassador for 5 years where he met every month with his fellow Ambassadors to plan and promote community events for the beautiful town of Ramona, his place of residence.
